who else... wants to be the jester of knowledge… though the sky is clear and calm, whenever you want.
no erinyes, just children of the night who skirmish... where have you been, where are you now?… when it gets darker, you'll hear the sound of laughter.
history on a cart, no psephos, a puppet theater... blow gently into the scene... the characters get dispersed... and bromides blossom.
smooth and mellow... the grass still growing, the trees are moving faster, and the light... caresses your eyelids.
Portare means to bring and carry.
What or who is carrying us?
Portare heißt bringen und tragen.
Was oder wer trägt uns?
Das Instrument ist tragbar. Daher heißt es Portativ. Man spielt es aber im Sitzen, es liegt auf dem linken Oberschenkel. Damit es waagerecht steht, ruht der linke Fuß auf einem Holzklotz und ist seine Unterseite gewölbt. Hinter den Tasten sind die Pfeifen angebracht. Mit der linken Hand drückt man auf den Blasebalg, mit der rechten werden die Tasten betätigt. Außerdem gibt es Bleigewichte, um Bordun-, d.h. meist tiefe Haltetöne, zu erzeugen.
The instrument is portable. That´s why it´s named portative. But you play it sitting on a stool, it lays upon your left thigh. For it stands upright, the left foot rests on a log and its bottom side is arched. Behind the keys there are the pipes. With the left hand you press the bellow, with the right hand you touch the keys. Also there are lead weights to create drones, that is to say mostly deep sustained notes.
In a certain way it´s about an extinct instrument. It is still produced, on demand and/or in small quantities but only used in performances of Early Music. In the Middle Ages though it was en vogue.
In gewisser Weise handelt es sich um ein ausgestorbenes Instrument. Es wird zwar noch auf Bestellung und/oder in geringer Stückzahl produziert, aber eigentlich nur noch bei Aufführungen Alter und Früher Musik verwendet. Iim Mittelalter war es jedoch en vogue.
Rainer Groß aus dem rheinhessischen Armsheim hat es gebaut. Er ist Kirchenmusiker und konstruiert in seiner freien Zeit auf Bestellung Portative.
Rainer Groß from Armsheim northeast of Frankfurt built it. He is a Church Music Director and in his spare time constructs portatives.
This one is a fox, so reddish brown, it´s made out of cedarwood; normally one uses oak timber.
Dieses hier ist ein Fuchs, so rötlich braun, es ist aus Zedernholz; normalerweise wird Eiche verwendet.
Gelassenheit und Stille sind die Mottos.

Hier kommt die Flöte zum Einsatz: die Klänge ähneln sich sehr, nur die Tonhöhe ist verschieden.
Here comes the flute: the sound is quite similar, only the pitch is lower.
You can let tones sound up to 45 seconds. Pressing the bellow either hard or gentle you also have a certain influence on the height of tones and can produce »dirty« chords and/or intervals.
I was interested in - like in LUFTSILBER, using different melodions and melodicas out of tune - the interferences, the chafing oscillations and wolfe tones of these intervals.
Actually PORTARE is one self-contained piece, nevertheless do the six tracks - like with ANGELS - also have a beginning and an end.
Man kann einzelne Töne ungefähr bis zu 45 Sekunden erklingen lassen. Mittels des jeweiligen Drucks ist außerdem ein gewisser Einfluß auf die Tonhöhe und somit das Spiel »unsauberer« Akkorde und/oder Intervalle möglich.
Mich interessierten, wie schon bei dem Stück mit mehreren Melodions bzw. Melodicas, LUFTSILBER, die Interferenzen, die sich reibenden Schwingungen und Wolfstöne dieser verstimmten Intervalle.
PORTARE ist eigentlich ein abgeschlossenes Stück, dennoch haben auch die sechs tracks - wie schon bei ANGELS - einen Anfang und ein Ende.
